Ayurveda – What does it mean?
The word Ayurveda literally means ‘the knowledge of life’. Dating back some 5,000 years this science of health, wellness and wholeness is still practiced in India today. The aim of Ayurveda is to establish a state of wellness amongst a world of change.
Staying Healthy with Ayurveda
Prevention is strongly emphasised in Ayurveda. According to this ancient science, much of being healthy is simply being more aware. By being aware of your constitution (Dosha), and remaining aware of how your mind, body and emotions respond to the ever changing world, we can make the informed choices required to maintain good health and well being.
Ayurveda and the Wisdom of the Doshas
Each of the three Dosha (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) are present in the body and govern all activities of the body, mind and emotions. Ayurveda looks at every individual as being unique with varying quantities of each Dosha. Physical changes in the body occur due to subtle changes or imbalances in the three Dosha.
Health through Balance
According to the science of Ayurveda, health is the natural state when there is perfect balance of your body, mind and spirit. In managing any imbalance, Ayurveda determines which Dosha is out of balance and takes steps to normalise it. This process aims to seek out the root cause of the imbalance rather than merely treating symptoms.
